The End of Oak Street (2026)

Dinosaur mayhem, Anne Hathaway, and 1980’s suburbia. it should be the perfect marriage of elements for a great blockbuster but The End of Oak Street just can’t seem to deliver the dynamite product that we deserve.

It feels more like a college student project with a big budget. Unfortunately, I think it would have been stronger as a 35 minute short film. It just feels unnecessarily long and drawn out for the sake of needing it to be a certain length to get a big screen release. .

It is no secret that dinosaur mayhem sells very well, just look at the overall success of the Jurassic Park/World Series. Although, when it is watered down to throwing a random assortment of dinos into a suburban community and then trying it explain how it all happened, it cheapens the thrill. People don’t go to see movies about dinosaurs terrorizing humans for there to be an education on cosmic phenomenon thrown in.

It is in this “explanation” that the movie really falls flat because the exposition and explanation are so blatant and in your face that it feels like the filmmaker has no faith in his audience to be figure it out for themselves. Instead the characters are essentially waving a giant flag saying, “This part is important and explains why this is happening”.

Aside from that, the characters minus Anne Hathaway’s mother character are simply annoying and completely lack survival instincts which makes the audience more frustrated that they weren’t just eaten.

While there are some fun chase sequences thrown in, the majority of the film just sits in a weird limbo where the audience seems to just wait on baited breath for the next action scene to see if the family can make it out alive.
